Announcing Valkyrie Virtue: Uplifting Nonprofits and Women in STEM

At Valkyrie, we believe data science has the potential to transform lives and push humanity forward. And with 2020 serving as an incredibly challenging year for all, we recognize the new hurdles and shifting landscapes in the scientific community. Beyond our work in healthcare, retail, financial services and a host of other industries, the Valkyrie team aims to extend our services to the dedicated groups responsible for public safety and those who push for equality in the data science field. We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new philanthropy initiative, Valkyrie Virtue, led by Valkyrie’s Liz Coufal. Designed to empower nonprofit organizations and women in STEM, Valkyrie Virtue will provide much-needed data science services and resources to individuals and nonprofit entities. The philanthropic arm of our fast-growing business consists of pro-bono work, scholarships and much more.

And it’s an honor to introduce Valkyrie Virtue’s inaugural pro-bono project: a partnership with the amazing All Clear Foundation (ACF), a nonprofit organization focused on aggregating critical resources to improve the life expectancy and wellbeing of first responders and their families. By providing data-driven insights on the first responder community, we’ve helped ACF initiate new critical decision-making processes based on statistical insight and data from public forums for first responders and community resources.

In addition to our work with ACF and offering new ways to support first responders, we are committed to spotlighting underrepresented and emerging voices in science. To further promote diversity in data science, we’ve launched our Women in STEM Scholarship Fund for local Austin students pursuing higher education in STEM. With a special focus on women of color, these scholarships will broaden the scientific community and provide new opportunities to pursue male-dominated careers in college and in the workplace. We recently worked with the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium around this initiative and plan to distribute more scholarships in the future.

Valkyrie Launches Valkyrie Virtue to Empower Nonprofit Organizations and Women in STEM

New Philanthropy Arm Aims to Use Data Science for the Betterment of All

AUSTIN, TX, October 21, 2020—,,Valkyrie, a firm that applies scientific solutions to a variety of industrial and investment opportunities, has unveiled its new philanthropic initiative, Valkyrie Virtue. The program, led by Valkyrie’s Liz Coufal, provides much-needed data science services and resources to individuals and nonprofits, beginning with pro bono support to philanthropic organizations and scholarships to local female STEM students. To kick off the program, Valkyrie has teamed up with ,,All Clear Foundation (ACF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to aggregating critical resources to improve the life expectancy and wellbeing of first responders and their families, to provide data-driven insights on the first responder community.

“We believe that science should constantly push humanity forward for the betterment of all,” says Coufal. “The Valkyrie Virtue program is a manifestation of our values as we seek to use our capabilities to address systemic issues with the power of data science.”

Valkyrie’s inaugural program with ACF initiated new critical decision-making processes based on statistical insight and data from public forums for first responders and community resources. Valkyrie examined over 20,000 publicly available first responder interactions on online communities and leveraged Natural Language Processing (NLP) modeling techniques to examine discussion topics, community composition and communication styles. As a result, Valkyrie’s team of data scientists uncovered transformative insights and strategies to improve seasonal support, social engagement and living situations for first responders.

“Valkyrie’s data research and in-depth statistical analysis of first-person accounts bolstered our insight of issues impacting first responders and identified opportunities to help improve their overall health and wellbeing,” said Janell Farr, President of ACF. “It’s invaluable for us to better understand their perspectives, as well any gaps in needed resources, so we can better focus our efforts to serve the men and women serving on the front lines of our communities. Valkyrie has uncovered a new wealth of knowledge that is already being put to work to benefit first responders.”

Along with Valkyrie’s work with ACF, the company has also established an annual Women in STEM Scholarship Fund awarded to local Austin students pursuing higher education in STEM. With ,,less than one percent of all philanthropic efforts catered towards women of color advancing in STEM, Valkyrie aims to advocate for and inspire women of color to pursue their dreams in college and beyond. This past year, Valkyrie and the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium presented a $10,000 academic scholarship to an Austin-based student currently enrolled at Texas A&M University.

“We’re inspired by the incredible female scientists on our team, and those in our community who have overcome adversity to contribute to our field.” said Charlie Burgoyne, CEO of Valkyrie. “They are a sharp reminder of the incredible potential of a balanced team. Part of our charter is to transfer a portion of our success into contributions back to our community to ensure that future generations of scientists can collaborate inclusively.”
