Valkyrie's Response to COVID-19

At Valkyrie, we transform the universal truths found through research into substance and action. We extract knowledge from chaos and deliver powerful capabilities that drive tangible strategic value. As part of that mission, we strive to support our community through our Impact division which focuses our resources on positive causes, efforts and nonprofit organizations. Despite recent events, we have been continuously impressed to see our communities rallying together. We’ve been inspired by our community and we’re doing our small part to contribute back.

Our team has been working valiantly at home for over three weeks now. We’re proud of the resilience our scientists have shown as our team made the transition to work from home. The business remains fully operational despite the transition, and our clients and partners can expect nothing to change on our end. We remain steadfast in our commitment to our work and research; and we will continue to closely abide by all necessary precautions laid out by public health officials.

As we ride through this tumultuous season together, we’re remaining steady at the helm of our values, best practices, and commitments to our clients. Not only are we focused on the health and safety of our team, but our commitment to our community remains steadfast. We are grateful that our business remains strong and want to hold true to our values by supporting the community that has allowed us to grow and thrive in our home city of Austin. This month, our team came together to donate to these three incredible initiatives impacted by COVID-19. We hope you’ll join us.

Emergency Relief for Austin: All Together ATX Fund

“In an effort to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, Austin Community Foundation and United Way for Greater Austin have partnered to create All Together ATX. This community-led philanthropic fund will provide flexible resources to nonprofit organizations working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and the economic consequences of the outbreak.”

Helping First Responders: All Clear Foundation

“All Clear Foundation is driven to change the harmful stigmas and daunting statistics plaguing the First Responder profession. By creating, convening, funding and amplifying innovative programs focused on improving their life expectancy and wellbeing, we have the opportunity to positively impact the men and women who sacrifice so much and shoulder unfathomable burdens in their efforts to keep us and our communities safe.”

STEM Education: Code2College

“Code2College provides access and opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) fields to students from underrepresented backgrounds in tech: girls, students of color and from low-income backgrounds. By equipping these students with both technical and professional skills, we endeavor to prepare them for a variety of in-demand, high-paying technical careers.”

Due to COVID-19, Code2College has sustained significant earned revenue losses due to the cancellation of many summer internships and its sponsored flagship event. These losses (nearly $300,000) directly impact the capacity for the organization to serve the nearly 500 students in the program each year. Further, the loss of internship opportunities creates a significant economic hurdle for those students who typically earn income that is used for college savings and household expenses.

We encourage our community to join us in supporting these organizations. Though this is a dark time, we continue to look to and learn from the selfless leadership shown by many. From our own Principal Scientists to healthcare professionals to local small businesses stepping up to help, we are grateful for you and stand with you. We’re honored to do our small part in combating this virus from our (remote) lab, but more on that later.
